For the second week in succession, the Counts were hit by an early score in the opening minutes but, unlike the previous week, there was no way back for them. However, they did have Purley John Fisher on the back foot during a 10-minute spell where they lay siege to their line. Unfortunately, they were unable to penetrate a rock solid Purley John Fisher defensive line who successfully held them at bay.
Purley John Fisher effectively won the match in the 10 minutes before half time when they ran in three tries, all of which were set up by breaks which badly exposed Walcountians’ defence.
The home side added two more tries in the second half to seal victory. The first after 10 minutes came from a drive-over from a ruck on the Counts line. The second, after 20 minutes, came from a rolling maul.
Walcountians, to their credit, did not give up and made several attempts to bring their backline into play, but were thwarted by a solid Purley John Fisher defence.
Walcountians return after the Christmas break on 4 January when they take on Old Cranleighans in a match they need to win to avoid a possible second successive relegation. Kick off at Clock House, Woodmansterne is at 2pm.
