Even without the services of "The People's Champion", Dom Bell, the Counts had the edge over their visitors from the kick-off as they drove play up the Clock House slope into their 22. They also successfully contained an Amplefordians attacks as their defensive tackling was solid. However, they suffered an early loss when No8 Scott Bird suffered an ankle injury and it was not until the 17th minute before they took the lead when winger Omarie Brown broke from his own half and won the race to his own kick forward and touch down. Full-back Hal Mogridge added the conversion to put the Counts seven points up.
Walcountians increased their lead four minutes later when flanker Sam Charnock crossed for a second try after backing up a move by the threequarters. Once again, Hal Mogridge added a conversion.
Amplefordians opened their account with a penalty in the 36th minute but it was Walcountians who continues to press and were unlucky not to have a third try five minutes into stoppage time when centre George Charnock had a try disallowed after a clearance kick was charged down.
Walcountians continued to rack up the try count in the second half as they appeared to be delivering revenge for the rout they suffered in the opening League match back in September. Flanker Joe Henderson scored the first in the third minute as he drove over from a ruck on the Amplefordians line. Omarie Brown scored his second ten minutes later to finish a threequarter move started by George Charnock and Hal Mogridge. Prop James Ford got on the scoresheet in the 25th minute when he drove over for a try from a tap penalty, and another short-range drive-over in the 31st minute delivered a first try for lock Callum Rees.
However, the final few minutes of the game were to prove costly for the Counts as sin-binnings reduced them to 12 players. Amplefordians took advantage of the disparity of players to gain a penalty try in the 39th minute, followed by a brace of tries from winger Hector Panday in the 41st and 42nd minutes.
Walcountians have finished the season in ninth place in Counties League 2 Surrey, which means on paper that they are safe from relegation. Their priorities for 2025-26 are to build on an emerging core of quality players and to recruit new talent from Wallington County Grammar School and from former pupils who are at university.
