In the first ten minutes, it was Walcountians who dominated both possession and territory and this platform enabled them to take an early lead. The Counts were awarded a penalty in the Worth 22 and, from a tap move, the ball found its way to prop Dom Bell who intelligently offloaded to winger Omarie Brown who raced clear for his ninth try of the season.
The visitors then came back into life and started to put Walcountians under pressure. An excellent tactical kicking game by Worth half-backs Toby Purvis and Rhodri Skyrme forced the Counts back towards their own line, and Walcountians did themselves no favours with loose kicking and handling mistakes which played into the hands of the visitors. Tries in the 19th and 24th minutes saw Worth take a seven-point lead.
Long-serving flanker Joe Henderson reduced the arrears by forcing his way over for a short-range try in the 36th minute but, as the match drifted into stoppage time, Worth outside centre Jim Kemp extended the visitors lead to nine points when he took an offload from a maul on the Counts line.
An inattentive Walcountians were caught out in the first minute after the break when Worth inside centre Jack Hearn crossed for a try after taking an offload from his forwards. However, it was the turn of Walcountians to fight back, with lock George Orji and flanker Sam Charnock outstanding as the Counts pack took the fight to Worth. In the seventh minute into the second half, centre George Charnock made a break from his own half, cleverly chipping the ball over the Worth defence and retrieving it before putting full-back Marvin Fletcher-Rogers clear to out-accelerate the Worth defence to touch down in the corner. And when hooker Dylan Camakamma went over for the Counts fourth try of the day in the 18th minute after supporting his threequarters, victory seemed a possibility for Counts side that was only four points in arrears.
Worth were not finished and fly-half Toby Purvis capped an impressive afternoon with the boot by banging over a penalty in the 22nd minute to extend their lead.
Walcountians last throw of the dice came in the 37th minute when Sam Charnock set up a ruck after making a thunderous break through the Worth defence , from which the ball was offloaded to the threequarters to put George Charnock in for a well-deserved try.
This put Walcountians a score from victory. Unfortunately, the last word fell to Worth with Jack Hearn slicing through the Counts defence in stoppage time to seal victory.
Walcountians finished in fourth place in Counties League 2 Surrey and, with several youngsters already signed up for next season, there is considerable optimism that they are on course to regain their former status at the top of the Counties pyramid.
